Comments:
- We had some more new friends today. The children are starting to settle down now. We had fewer teary eyed ones this week. Hopefully by next week, the children will be fine and the parents can attend to their own classes :-) .
- We had a new seating arrangement this time. We had a huge cirlce. It seemed to work better.
- Priyanka and Abhinav came up to say the Shlokas in the middle of the circle. Good job kids!! Aditi, Anjali, Priyanka and Shwetha have volunteered to do it in the next class. Parents, please have them practise it at home (Saraswathi Namasthubhyam, Vakrathunda, and Shubham karothi kalyaanam).
- We are planning to introduce a little bit of Sanskrit vocabulary to the kids. We started with how to introduce ourselves (For e.g. Mama Naama Pooja etc). Children then came to the center of the circle and introduced themselves.
- We then played the Ganeshaha Vadathi (Ganesha Says) game - it is played like Simon says. We introduced Sanskrit words like Upavishatu (sit), Utthishtatu (Stand), Utpatatu (jump), Tharatu (swim), Hasathu (laugh). The children picked it up pretty quickly and they seemed to have a lot of fun. We will try to play a few minutes every week and also introduce new vocabulary.
- They all then got to give Hi Five to Ganesha with Jeevan uncle (it was a bit tricky :-)).
- It was amazing to see that some of the kids have already memorized the Bhajan - Great God Ganapathy!! Many of them remembered the actions too.
- We started practising in earnest for the Bhagavad Geeta Chanting competition to be held in Apr-May 2010. We did the first Shloka. We will continue to do this through October. Parents, please practise with your children. We would like them to come up to the center and recite it on their own in November.
- Some of them remembered to do their homework and brought back the beautiful Durga pictures they had completed!! Nice job, kids..
- We did a small recap of what we had done in class, before we did the Ending prayers.
Reminders:
- Please remember to take them to the restroom before they come to class. We were lucky that there were a few parents outside today to help us out but this will not be the case after a couple of weeks!
- Please don't send any bags/folders to class. They do not need them.
- If you would like, you can donate markers, gluesticks and any decorative stickers/sequins etc for our projects.
- If you like, you can sign up for snack - we will distribute it at the end of class.
